Received a card from David Seymour about another Bible Study meeting at the Wheeler Basin Library on November 1. I need to recheck the card again, but I believe the time is 6:30pm.

The 30th Reunion pictures appeared in today's edition of The Decatur Daily. Surprisingly, you could make out most everyone in the two photos. Again, contact the paper directly on their website for ordering copies of the prints.

The pictures taken at the 30th Reunion by The Decatur Daily may be in this Sunday's paper. I returned them with the names during the early onset of hurricane Ivan on Thursday afternoon. They've changed deadline times due to the recent rescheduling of the paper, but I was told the pictures might possibly make it in. After they are published, anyone who wishes either of the pictures may order them directly from their website. I believe a 5x7 is $10.90, but don't hold me to it.
I also ran into Martha Zills Kelly, who has worked there for 17 years. She was unable to attend the reunion, but we got a chance to talk briefly. Oh, and Vicki Robison McCullough, your directory was mailed out today!

There were a total of ten from the committee who met this evening to wrap up some items of cost, and to share comments regarding the 'official' and 'unofficial' gatherings of last weekend.
Toni said we had 148 at Saturday evening's event, and Lee reported 63 for Sunday. All the comments from attendees and committee members alike have been positive. Everyone is very pleased with the way things went, and we hope everyone had a good time.
Another item discussed tonight; the pictures from The Decatur Daily have been reviewed for placement of names, and I will get them back soon to be published. We will also try to find out what they will cost if purchased from the paper.
David Seymour has informed Lee that he is very interested in forming a Bible study group in Decatur to meet on the first Monday of every month, and is willing to drive down from Chattanooga to make it happen. He asks that we have at least 8 participants, and they do not have to be class members to be included. You mail e-mail him, Lee or myself to let us know of your interest. As we know more about it, additional information will be posted here.
For those of you who did not attend, or forgot to pick up a directory, we will have to charge $9.00 to break even on mailing them: $5.00 for basic directory cost + $3.85 for postage + $0.15 for envelope/label. I informed the other committee members of those amounts this evening. As the P.O. Box will be going away the end of this month, you may send funds to my home address:

Our 30th reunion turned out to be a wonderful event! The ones of us on the reunion committee were extremely pleased with the turnout. At least 130 persons attended Saturday night at the Decatur Country Club, and about 60 were present for the devotional service in the DHS auditorium this morning. It was really a pleasure to see everyone. I want to thank Lee Johnson Lott for arranging the opening of the school, and Jeanne Duke Payne for the "unofficial" tour. As well as Don Richter and David Seymour for their inspirational messages in our gathering this morning.
A small group of us also met at Bob Gibson's Bar-B-Q following the devotional service and had a great time.
For those of you who could not attend either event, you were greatly missed, but were part of our thoughts and conversations. To the ones who voiced their appreciation for the committee's efforts, we thank you, and are glad you enjoyed yourselves. We do plan on doing it again in 10 (maybe 5?) years. I took several (okay, over 120) pictures last night and today; hope to post some of them on the site soon.
To the Reunion Committee: A follow-up meeting is set for Sept. 13th, at 7:00PM at Kin's office.

I picked up 90 copies of the directories this afternoon and delivered them with folders to Lee this evening for binding. While there, she informed me a change had been made to Sunday's gathering after speaking with David Seymour. Open house access to Decatur High (through the Main Entrance only) with no specific "tour" is still set for 10:00 AM until 10:25 AM. However. . .
WE WILL NOT MEET AT THE DELANO PARK PAVILION AS PREVIOUSLY STATED.
At 10:30 AM, we will have a devotional in the DHS auditorium, during which time we shall also remember our classmates who have passed.
It was decided that since this venue was now available, we should utilize it. In addition to being more comfortable, we do have a small possibility of some advance weather related to hurricane Frances, but that is not really expected until Monday or Tuesday, as the current projections indicate.

We had ten members of the Reunion Committee meet at Kin Copeland's office tonight to discuss the last remaining items in preparation for the events this weekend. Over 125 persons are expected to attend the evening function at the Decatur Country Club on Saturday night. Of these, about 80 are classmates. Who knows who will show up at the last minute? If it is anything like the 'bio' forms, it could be quite a surprise.
Speaking of the biographies, if you can get yours to me in email (email@example.com) by 4:00 PM Central Time, or fax it by that time to my attention at work (256-725-4811), then you will just make it in time. They go to be reproduced tomorrow afternoon (Tuesday, 8/31/04), as we simply cannot delay on this any longer.
Lee announced tonight that she has arranged to have the high school open (main entrance only) on Sunday morning at 10:00 AM for those who wish to see how it has been re-worked (too bad we didn't have it like that in the 70's!). She says the new gymnasium rivals the appearance of those found in some colleges, with nice seating and the Raider image painted on the floor. Please be sure to return to the pavilion at Delano Park by 10:30 AM for the beginning of the memorial service.
We are all looking forward to seeing everyone for both events, and our sorrow if you are unable to attend. This is something of a milestone in our lives, and we hope to share it with those who were a part of our "formative years".

Well folks, we are one week away, and trying to tie all the last items together. I am taking the all bio forms I have this week (probably Tuesday) to be copied, and work toward binding the directories in time for the reunion. I've spoken with Melissa Carrell Craig on this, and feel we have no choice but to charge a small fee of $5 per directory to cover document and processing costs. If you live away, are not attending and want one, please also consider postage charges. Thanks - Jim.
From Lee Johnson Lott early on the 27th, regarding the activity of September 5th (all are invited):
"The pavilion at Delano is
reserved and the service should start at 10:30 A.M.
As discussed David Seymour is going to do the service. He and I have talked and I think he will teach this
time as a devotional. I think at the beginning of the service he will call out all the names of the class
members who have passed. He says that the service should last 30 to 45 minutes."
Also, in an email from Melissa on the afternoon of the 26th:
"I just spoke with Lynne (Russell) Mitchum who had talked with Kin Copeland. A final meeting has been scheduled at his office for Monday, Aug 30th at 7:00 to go over final plans. It shouldn't be a long meeting. Hope to see you there! Melissa"

Six of us met at Lynne's to try and finalize some plans. Kathy Harland joined us tonight; however, Lee was unable to make it, but we understand from her that the Point Mallard Prayer Chapel is not available on the 5th, so the Sunday morning gathering will be at the pavilion in Delano Park instead. I promise more details on that as soon as I have them.
Approximately 107 attendees and growing. We are hoping for a nice turnout, and plan to have a Decatur Daily photographer at the country club early Saturday night for some brief pictures. Remember, it is casual, but no jeans or shorts. Thanks.
We have reviewed costs, and are hopefully on budget. It depends on how much you want us to spend for decorations (LOL).
The Sunday article reached a few folks. Don Dougherty called me today to indicate his desire to attend, and to update his mailing information.
Another meeting we feel is needed before the reunion, but no definite date, time or place has been set at this moment. Will post it when something is known.

Five of us met at Lynne's tonight. I gave Lee about 170 envelopes printed with the names of those uncommitted at this point. If you have not replied to us ("yea" or "nay"), then expect to receive this second mailing. We need to finalize knowing how many are coming in these last two weeks. Mailing addresses are as current as we have been given, and we have tried for months to get as many as possible!
About 102 attendance confirmations received so far, with folks coming from all over... California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, North & South Carolina, Georgia, Michigan, Maryland, Missouri, Tennessee, and Alabama.
The gathering on Sunday morning at the Point Mallard Prayer Chapel is being finalized. We do want to take time to remember some of our friends who are no longer with us. It was shocking to hear of Randy Byars' death last week, right here before the reunion. We are all special people in our own way, but none of us are outright immortal. Plus, we ARE getting older you know!
We're looking to copy the bio forms you've sent in and make them into a directory/journal. Get yours in to us now to be included.
The next meeting will be Tuesday, August 24th, 7:00pm, at Lynne Russell Mitchum's on Pinehurst.

Unexpected events caused only six of us to attend a brief meeting in Dr. Kin's parking lot, but several things were determined:
At this time, there are 93 confirmed attendees (incl. spouses/guests), with more known respondents to be sending in their confirmations. We are FOUR weeks away, folks! Let us know something from you one way or another.
Another mail-out of the original letter, accompanied by a reminder, will be sent out by August 15th to those who have not committed or responded, or also if we just recently received contact info for them. We will not knowingly send a reminder to those have indicated they are not attending.
Bio forms have been collected, and based on comments at tonight's meeting, every attempt will be made to compile them into a directory in time for the reunion. A nominal fee for materials may be charged, depending on actual costs incurred. Also, it has been suggested to use our pictures from the annual, and one classmate emailed me about scanning annual pictures for the website (don't know if there are copyright issues there).
Always.... try to think of people we have not been able to reach, so we can let them know our plans. We want as many who'd like to attend have the opportunity to do so.

A Saturday morning 'wake-up' call from Don Richter ( ) in follow-up to an e-mail earlier in the week has prompted me to post the original letter mailed out around June 1st. My web hosting provider suffered DoS attacks, and the site was down a couple of days. I am glad the inconvenience was short-lived, and hope that no more interruptions occur. But I will say that HostSave has been an extremely efficient and economical provider in the eight months of my domain's existence.

Again, seven of the committee met at Kin's office tonight. (I hadn't seen Lee Johnson Lott in years!) Toni was home sick, as we found out when we called her to see how all of you are responding. She indicated that the replies are coming in surges... a trickle, then a bunch, etc.
Visual concepts for remembering old times were tossed about, provided we can get the right gear together. Also, a casual gathering on the morning of the 5th was briefly discussed - more on that as it develops.
The key here is making sure as many know about it as we can. Very few of our mail-outs have been returned as undeliverable, but we still have many persons who remain to be contacted. A second mail-out "may" be done in early August; but we hope to avoid it, if possible.
The next committee meeting is Thursday, August 5th, 7:00pm, at Kin's office if you wish to attend.

Toni Garrison Robert has informed me that some of the invitational letters are being returned due to improper, old, or outdated addresses. As they are identified to me, I will place them back on the "Missing" list with "Returned Mail" notices. If anyone can locate these individuals, we ask that you please do so, or pass on to us where you think they can be contacted. Thanks!

Once again, seven members of the reunion committee met at this evening to discuss a review of subcommittees, the impending mail-out, possible decorations, and answers for completing the bio form.

The letter, bio form, and envelopes have been printed, and should be enroute to your homes within a few days. We anticipate hearing back from you quickly, and that many of you will be able to come.
Next open committee meeting is July 12th at Kin's.

Seven members of the reunion committee met at this evening to review a rough draft of the invitational letter and make changes as needed. We also shared a little more info on located classmates, talked about an open invitation to former teachers, and agreed to add a short "bio" form to the mail-out, which we would like people to complete even if they are not planning to attend the reunion. This will permit a possible future directory to be compiled, should enough persons be interested. This form may be available online at some point.
The letter, which is being sent out around June 1st, is expected to be our ONLY mailed announcement. This is an effort to conserve funds for the event. Additional mailings will be done if deemed absolutely necessary. For the most part, updates and general information should be available here on the website. If you can't find what you are looking for, email me.
We are working a budget with an estimated cash flow, and the cost has been factored around that. Please note that the cost will be $5 more per person if payment is received after the deadline of August 1, or at the door.
The hors d'oeuvres planned to be served at the country club include:
Baked crabmeat spread with toast points
Chicken fingers with sauce
Spring rolls w/ spicy mustard sauce
Stuffed jalapeno poppers
Cold meat tray of roast beef, ham and turkey with rolls and condiments
Fruit, vegetable, and cheese trays
Chicken salad in phyllo cups
Deluxe miniature pick-up desserts
Please, Please, Please . . . Check the "missing" classmates page for anyone you think you have information on, or can get in contact with regarding their current mailing address.
Also, if anyone knows about the registry that was being signed during the DHS 50th Anniversary, please let us hear from you.
The next meeting is scheduled for 7pm on Monday, May 24th at Kin's office. Again, anyone who wants to attend is free to do so. Hopefully, the letters and envelopes will all be printed by then, with only a few others possibly needed for last-minute addressees.

A meeting of one and a half hours between ten of us at Kin's office resulted in a discussion of various topics:
First of all, SPREAD THE WORD, and GET INFORMATION TO US. If you know someone's email address, phone number, or full address, send it to me (links below).
Secondly, we want ANYONE who wants to join in these meetings to do so. If interested, email me or get with anyone else who's already involved.
The cost for the Saturday evening event will be $30-single/$60-couple. It will be hosted at the Decatur Country Club. Dinner will consist of a large selection of hot and cold hors d'oeuvres with cheeses and miniature desserts. A cash bar will be open 7pm-11pm, and 70's era music will be played by a DJ at a level our 40-ish ears can handle.
Still pending, are a possible gathering on Sunday, and a printed directory if enough are interested. These items may be addressed at our next meeting on April 20th at 7pm, again at Kin's office. We are really pushing to get as many mailing addresses as possible by then in preparation for a mail-out.
Lastly, I will soon place a link on this page which will direct you to names of persons for whom we need addresses. Any info provided to locate these people will be greatly appreciated. Please check back for updates.

Another meeting of 5 or 6 of the Reunion Committee took place at Kin's office with more discussion on event and participant costs and the possibility of printing a directory (ANY COMMENTS? As for information gathering, we currently have about 100 names with mailing and/or email addresses available. We want to find as many of you as we can!

Ten* of us met this evening at the Wheeler Basin Regional Library to discuss who had been found, who was still to be located, possible leads, event ideas, committees needed, and methods of contact. If you are a member of the Class of 1974 of Decatur High School and have not been contacted by the Reunion Committee, or someone who has inquired on their behalf, please let us know who you are, along with full contact information, including e-mail. A couple of months ago, I was contacted by Jeanne (Duke) Payne to aid in the coordination of a class reunion. Although I was unable to attend, I believe nine persons attended the first meeting around the end of December, 2003.
Now, a committee has been formed and begun the process of organizing, and locating as many as of the graduates of the Decatur High School Class of 1974 as is humanly possible. If you are, or know of someone who may be a member of this group, please send e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org with as much information as you can provide.
As more information becomes available through time, discovery, and further meetings, additional notices will be posted here. This site, depending on the opinion of the Reunion Committee, may be used as a primary means for notification. While this domain is my personal one, I am willing to allow such space as needed to assist the committee in this endeavor (within limits to my account, of course!)
